1. INTRODUCTION

This is mainly a tutorial aimed at people who are new to the W@rez scene and want to get the best out of it.
By reading the following sections of this guide, you should have a better understanding.
This guide will not help with any of the problems that are faced with downloading w@rez, such as burning issues or not having the correct codec to watch a movie etc......but will give a clearer understanding to the beginner.
Remember that this is only an introductory guide and further (more advanced) reading of any of the subjects involved can be found elsewhere.

2. DOWNLOADING W@REZ

This section will look at Iso's, rips and serials + cracks and the different places where the w@rez are kept and some of the tools.
Firstly, you have to decide on wether you want to download an "Iso" or a "Rip".
So what is an "Iso"? and what is a "Rip"?

Well, an "Iso" is the term we use for having the full cd and a "Rip" is the same product, but with a lot of things removed (ripped)....like sound and movie files.
Downloading an Iso will obviously take a lot longer, but you will be able to burn it onto a CD and have as near to the real thing (just like buying it out of a store).
The advantage of downloading a "Rip" is that it will be downloaded a lot sooner and you don't need to burn it, because it can be installed directly onto your computer.

Another type of w@rez download, is programs that require "Serial Numbers" or "Cracks" + "Patches" to make it become the full product.
Those types of programs usually have a "Free Trial" which counts down everyday until the program expires and becomes unusable.
A Serial Number (which can also be given from a keygenerator or Keygen) or a "Crack" can delay, or do away with the countdown of the program altogether.....making it the same as the purchased product.
Sometimes, a program can have parts of it "locked out" while you "Try it for free".....the correct "Crack" will unlock it for you.
There are lots of Serials and Crack sites out there, with their own search engines to help you find what you need.

====================
The w@rez groups who put all this together for us, usually have an information file with each of their downloads.......this is an ".nfo" file.
This .nfo file can be read with Wordpad and it is worth reading, because it can give important information.
====================
All the w@rez are kept at different places and if you find it difficult to find something that you are looking for, don't worry.....it's not meant to be easy.
All the goods are spread throughout the internet and are shared by various means.
This is some of the ways that you can obtain w@rez >

W@rez http sites
FTP Servers
Peer to Peer (Kaaza, Bit Torrent, WinMX etc)
Irc Channels
News groups

Some of the above methods may require downloading an Application to do the job....so here is a few useful programs >

FlashGet
FlashFXP
mIRC

Remember there are other apps out there that can also do the job.....this is just a list of the most popular.
A point ot remember, is that many w@rez sites protect their files from "leecher sites" (sites who don't host anything) and the download of the Anti-leech script is required to be able to download anything.
Also some sites have put a password in the Zipped files (could be the name of their site).....so remember and make a note of the password.
Some sites may even have the files camouflaged so that they need to have the file extensions changed when they are downloaded.......for example changing .txt > .zip

A very popular method of downloading is through an F*P server (FTP). The url for an f*p is quite similar to an http link and can sometimes be accessed through your web-browser, but this is not really recommended.......and a good tool for this is FlashFXP.
You simply copy and paste an f*p link into this program and if you are granted access, you will connect up to it.
The address for an F*P LINK looks something like this >

<ftp://152.18.30.150:21>
(this would be annoymous access) The first part of it is a series of numbers separated with dots (this is the IP address........and the final part after the colon is the port number.
Much of the time, there are login and password details required and if this is the case, then the link will look like this >

<ftp://login:password@152.18.30.150:21>

There are tutorials out there for extra learning for the use of FlashFXP.......so if you want to use this method of downloading, I recomend that you learn how to use the program properly.
A final note about using f*p servers........NEVER ABUSE THEM
Never Delete Files
Don't Hammer it trying to connect.....If it gives the number 421......this means it is busy
If it says 530......then you have not been granted access (the password or login could have been changed)
Just take what you need then log out and let somone else have a go.
Remember that a lot of F*P's are people's own personal computers that they are sharing with everyone.....so always respect that.

3. EXTRACTING AND JOINING THE FILES

Normally, when you are downloading, you will be required to download a lot of files (not always the case)........this is because everything has been "chopped up" into lots of parts.
It has been deliberately done this way, to make it easier for uploading onto servers. Also, if you are downloading and the server goes off-line, you might be lucky to get the missing parts somewhere else.
Ususally the files are Rar or Ace and they have been made this way with the programs :WinRar or WinAce......so having those applications is essential.
WinRar is needed to put everything back together again, so that everything is "extracted" back to how it was......and WinRar is the most popular program for this.

When you download all the files of an Iso (might be 50x 15mb files) then use WinRar and you should end up with a folder containing a Cue and Bin file........you are now ready to make your first w@rez CD.
When you use WinRar (or WinAce) with a Rip......you should end up with a folder with files in it to "unpack" everything back to how it was.

Always try and use the most recent version of WinRar if you can and if WinRar doesn't work then use WinAce......or vice versa.
4. BURNING AND INSTALLING

In this section you will find out about how to burn an Iso (CD) and information about Installing.....You will also learn how to "mount" the image file as an alternative to burning.

So what do I need to make a CD (Iso)?

Well obviously you need a CD Writer and software......and some CD Writers are better than others and so is the Software.

I'm not going to tell you what CD Writer to buy, but I can tell you about some of the most popular software out there.

One of the most important parts of Burning Software is the program's ability to recognise .cue + .bin files. (see previous section about those files)
With Nero this can be achieved.....you simply browse through your directory files for the cuesheet (.cue) and it sets the program up to burn the .bin file.
With practise and some patience.....you will be turning out 1 disk after another.
There are other programs out there just as good as Nero and one is called, Alcohol 120%.
There may even come a time when you end up with a .ccd file. Well if this happens you can use CloneCD, because this is the file associated with it.....just as .nrg is associated with Nero.
Yet the advantage of having Alcohol 120% is that it has the ability to recognise the file formats (.nrg .ccd .iso) as well as others.....and it has other features which I will discuss shortly.

A common problem with "burning CDs" is that the finished CD doesn't install properly and this could be down to a lot of reasons >
Bad download or upload
Faulty disk
Problem with extracting
The burning software or even the CD Writer might have a fault
There could even be a problem with the warez release

All is not lost though, because there are ways to test things out.
You can use a program like IsoBuster......this allows you to extract the contents of the bin file into an empty folder on your hard drive.....then burn all the contents onto a disk......then see if that works.

Or... you can create a virtual drive on your computer where you can load-in (mount) the file without ever needing to burn it.
The advantage of this, is that you can test what you have downloaded before you burn it and it will work just the same as if you have placed a real CD into your Rom Drive.
The software above.....Alcohol 120% can do all that for you and so can another popular app....Daemon Tools.

An important note about installing w@rez is that you may need to take a "crack" from a folder on the CD and exchange it with the main .exe file in the installed directory.....sometimes this is known as a "No-Cd crack" and this works in much the same way as the crack that is also found with "rips".

A final note... always read the .nfo file, because there may be a needed serial number to go with the release and it will let you know if it needs a crack.

5. ABOUT MOVIES

There may come a time when you decide to download a movie from the w@rez scene.

The problems that you may be faced with, are having the movie in a different language, not having any sound or poor picture quality.....or not being able to watch the film at all.
Once again... read the .nfo file before downloading and if there is a sample of the film available.....check it out, before you start downloading.
The quality depends on the skill and reputation of the group.....as some groups wont release a movie unless they are completely happy with it....while others are just wanting to make a name for themselves and don't care about the quality.
It is possible to get a lot of releases of the same movie, even some with subtitles (subbed).
A movie can be anything from a shaky camcorder in a cinema to a Dvd copy.

The main formats associated with movies are >
Svcd
Vcd
Xvid
DivX

They all have their advantages and disadvantages.

The advantages of Svcd and Vcd is that they can usually be played back in a standalone DVD player that supports it......the disadvantage is that the movie may be spread over several disks.
The quality of Svcd is usually very good.......but it can involve a large download.

Most people who download movies with the Xvid + DivX format can only watch them on their computers......with the help of "Codecs" (these are files which allow the playback of compressed media.
The advantage of downloading a movie with these formats, is that it can usually fit onto a single CDR and it involves less downloading time.
So remember......having the correct "codecs" is vital to watch those movies.

The movies may be 1 file downloads or a large amount of Rar files.
Finally, if you have downloaded a Svcd or Vcd, it is possible to watch them on your computer and an easy way to do this is to use a program called VcdGear.
This program can convert a cue/bin to a single mpeg file that you can watch with your favourite Dvd Player (such as Power DVD or WinDVD).
If your computer has a TV-out, then you can connect it up so that you can watch a movie on your TV or record it onto your video.

6. A FINAL WORD

If you have read through all the sections of this tutorial, you should have a good foundation to increase your knowledge of the scene.
Always remember that many of the people, who are involved in the w@rez groups do it, because they want to and the people who share with us, expect us to share back. Spreading the w@rez helps to keep the scene alive.
